Prospective Students
About the studioSWOSU flutists hail from a variety of states and regions. Current flute studio members represent major areas of study in music education, performance, music business, music therapy, and more. Students may opt to major or minor in music or can pursue a non-music degree while taking part in music department organizations, such as the renowned marching band, "PRIDE of the Great Southwest." Flutists receive lessons and attend weekly studio classes while also performing in large ensembles and chamber ensembles. A fully accredited institution, SWOSU offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees.
The flute choir is active throughout the state and nationally. The ensemble regularly performs at Oklahoma Flute Society Flute Fairs and was selected to perform at National Flute Association Conventions in San Diego, California, Dallas, TX (cancelled due to COVID), and the 2021 Virtual Convention. SWOSU flutists have received local and national recognition, receiving honors in competitions sponsored by SWOSU, the Oklahoma Flute Society, the Ladies Music Club of OKC, Oklahoma Music Teacher's Association, and the National Flute Association, among others.
